2010 Fall Apparel Trends
Military inspiration, plaid and jeggings are among the key cooler weather trends in apparel and accessories for fall of 2010.
Fall’s color palette includes the ever popular, classic and flattering black. Rich, warm camel is in as an important neutral. Olive green tones are popular due to military style influences. On the other end of the spectrum, you’ll see eye-catching metallics, deep purples, light blues and bright reds.
ONE KEY PIECE
You’ll find military inspired shirts, jackets, cardigans, sweaters and coats for both men and women. To instantly update your wardrobe, the key piece for fall is a military jacket.
WOMEN’S APPAREL TRENDS
Plaids have taken hold of women’s tops and accessories for fall. Plaid button-ups, tunics and even backpacks and purses are available everywhere.
In contrast to plaid, you’ll see ultra feminine tops with draping, velvet and cowl neck sweaters. Dressed up wear is definitely more feminine and sophisticated with fitted suits and curvy sheath dresses.
Create a layered look with an open front vest or cardigan sweater. Layer on a long cardigan over skinny jeans or leggings.
You’ll find plenty of flattering boot cut bottoms, along with slimmer fashions, such as straight cut, skinny pants or leggings. The trendiest bottom style to hit the scene this fall is the “jegging,” which are leggings with the denim jean look.
ACCESSORIES
Tiered and draping necklaces adorn necklines while layered bangles dress up wrists for fall. Lightweight scarves draped around the neck add a pop of color or interest to basic outfits. Carry a clutch for a more dressed up look, or an oversized satchel for every day wear. Cinch in your shirt with a wide belt over top.
Footwear goes to extremes this fall. Gals will be seen with the ultra casual sneakers or cute embellished flats, all the way up to heeled boots, some with cowboy influences. The trendiest style to hit the pavement is the peep toe bootie.
Animal inspired trends are found on apparel and accessories, including faux fur, animal prints and shearling accents.
MEN’S TRENDS
Distressed jeans seem to be a mainstay in men’s fashion, and you’ll see some slimmer styles this fall. Plaid, military, western-style or other button-down shirts with lots of pockets look sleek layered over graphic print t-shirts. Skater shoes and retro sneakers are trendy casual footwear for guys. For a classier look, try black or grey straight leg jeans paired with a cardigan sweater.
